The Sound of Silence
Author:
tsunderes
Character/Fandom: Diva/Blood+
Prompt: 05. diamonds;
Word Count: 618
Summary: The Plane disappeared a week ago, and Diva is trying to cope.
Author Notes/Warnings: This is inspired by a conversation I had with Farrah a while ago about how Diva would react to losing the Plane now! I know I already did something similar to this, but the reaction is way different. And short.
Only warning is that it's kind of sad and I wrote it when I woke up? idk
Diva is wearing a wedding dress that she has never gotten to wear. She bought it for this occasion, and she's never looked happier as she is sitting in the white dress. There are priceless diamonds strung around her neck, belonging to a forgotten duchess. She is a beautiful bride, but Diva does not expect her groom to be here with her.
She looks at the clock, and it is five minutes to five in the morning. It is silent here, and even the nocturnal animals are returning to sleep as the morning inches closer. The silence soothes her, and Diva just closes her eyes, her thoughts returning to the day.
Diva woke next to a man that she didn't know. It was the fourth time this week. It had been, she thought, almost a week. It had been a week since the Plane disappeared for her. There was no time for goodbyes, just the inability to return to her home. There were no remnants, just the cold memories of the people there. She wondered, at first, whether it had been real at all, but as she saw the light blue scarf hanging in her closet, she cried.
Here she was, a week later, with her body pressed against a stranger. It was a quiet, sinking feeling, and Diva left him without a word of goodbye.
Instead, she went shopping. It was a store that spoke to her of unfulfilled hopes and dreams. She looked at all the beautiful, beautiful wedding dresses and thought that she would like to buy one. She held the silk in her hands, smiling fondly. It was the furthest hope and dream that one day; she would wear one of these dresses next to someone. Perhaps even further, was the hope that her groom would be the man that she fell in love with.
"It would look beautiful on you," a store attendant said, and it had startled Diva. Diva laughed shyly, asking if it really would, and she made up a story of a fiancée who she did not have. She had, with that story, been talked into buying the dress, and it made her happier than she had been in that week. It was a beautiful dress that would make her into a bride, someone loved so dearly. It was a beautiful thought.
She sent her servants home early that night, saying that there was no need for them to stay. There wasn't, after all. As soon as they left, she had put that dress on, and stared at her reflection for some time. Diva's reflection smiled back at her, her cheeks warmed with a slight blush. She had become the blushing bride that Amshel had told her that she would never be. It made her laugh, thinking that Amshel had been wrong about so much.
So, because of that, she took the beautiful jewels that Amshel had given her a century ago. They were the beautiful diamonds that turned light into a jewel itself, and it was absolutely priceless. It was a remnant from eras where extravagance separated the classes, and Diva had been at the very top of the classes as no less than a princess. She felt like a princess again, wearing such a lovely dress and even lovelier jewels.
The clock strikes five, and Diva tosses the freshly lit match into a basket full of old newspapers. She can smell them starting to burn and she sighs as if the smell pleased her. She looks down at the wedding dress and smiles, thinking about what could have been. She notices that the diamonds don't seem quite as bright as she remembered.
It is five-thirty when Diva dies.
